Jonathan took the challenge to give his birthday for this project. That means he told friends and family to give money to the project instead of getting him presents.
Why did you give up your birthday for Wells for India?
Jonathan: "Whenever I went to CIY, they showed the video about Ruby, and I was like “Hey, I can do that!” and I was able to raise quite a bit of money for my missions trip so I was like, hey, I can just do the same thing for Wells for India. So I did that and gave it a shot."
How did it feel to give up presents for your birthday?
Jonathan: "It actually felt really good, because I knew the money was going to a worthwhile cause and also I’ve heard a lot of stories about how people in India have been really needing that well, and so it was really nice knowing I’d be able to help out."
Is this something you would encourage others to do?
Jonathan: "Oh yeah, it was really good. I got to hang out with my friends and talk about it and do a whole bunch of other stuff – it was a lot of fun."
Do you think this is something that showed you the true meaning of a birthday?
Jonathan: "Yeah, it was a really big prioritizer."
What do you mean?
Jonathan: "Well, it helped me get my priorities straight on my birthday a bit more, because my sister did something like this a while back. When she was younger, she would do that sort of thing and donate all the money to a missionary. I never really thought too much about it, but now that I’ve actually done it, it’s actually really cool. It’s nice getting that really good feeling inside you."
