Talking to the Creator of the world about personal things in your life, especially without being able to see Him physically, is not something that comes naturally. Yet, in most cases, you just need to get past the initial apprehension and start talking. It is not easy for someone to be taught HOW to pray since it is a conversation, but we do want to provide some examples and testimonies for how others pray. Watch short video clips taken from our own College Heights family.
HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE
Maybe you have started to read the Bible multiple times but you're not sure where to begin. Here are some approaches for personal Bible study:
A book by Rick Warren, author of the Purpose Driven Life, called Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods: Twelve Ways You Can Unlock God’s Word can be found at Christianbook.com.
David Platt, minister of the Church at Brookhills in Alabama, has created an event called “Secret Church” that is geared for those who truly want to follow Christ. At one of those events he gave an intensive instruction on how to study the Bible. It is a four-part message, and well worth your time. Watch it here.
Fun competition, time with friends, prizes, and getting to know God’s Word. Not a bad combination! Quizzing For Christ (similar to Scholars Bowl) is an opportunity for kids to study the Bible and compete against their friends for how much they remember. Kids in 3rd - 12th grades are invited. Practices are Mondays from 6:00 – 8:00 PM with four competitions on Sunday afternoons throughout the semester.
