June 19, 2016

1. THE HIGHLIGHT

Titus Neuenschwander, Family Minister, Walt Wicklund and Ed Hahn, elders, announce the formation of a Preaching Team. You can watch it here. If you would like read the announcement, you can read it here.

2. THE SERMON

Dr. Mark Scott challenges us to remember that manliness in the Bride of Christ is a courageous tenderness to advance the gospel.

3. THE SCRIPTURE

1 Corinthians 16: 13, 14

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

4. THE QUESTIONS

Use these questions to further explore the theme of the service (these are great to use with your friends, family, or small group).

QUESTION 1: PRAY

Do you pray about your plans? In many of the epistles Paul tells about his travel plans. Just like us, he makes known his wishes. He has his desires, but he respects the desires of others through their prayers. Paul indicates that he wants to spend some time with the Corinthians (16:6). He recognizes there is opportunity for the gospel and there are many adversaries (16:9). He urged Apollos to visit the church, but Apollos didn’t see it that way (16:12). What summer plans do you need to pray about?

QUESTION 2: SPEAK

We speak about Jesus, but we don’t speak about him in the air. Paul mentions several people in 1 Corinthians 16.  He mentions Timothy, Apollos, Stephanas, Forunatus, Achaicus, Aquila, and Prisca. We speak to “people” about Jesus.  Can you speak to seven people about Jesus this summer?

QUESTION 3: GROW

Do you watch our offerings in the bulletin?  Some weeks we exceed our weekly need. Other weeks we fall behind. Read 1 Corinthians 16:1-3 and see what God would have you do in the area of your financial stewardship. Are you growing by giving regularly? Proportionately? Is your giving planned? What would stretch your faith in this regard?

QUESTION 4: LOVE

Paul closes 1 Corinthians with a rather harsh word about love (16:22).  Does that sound strange? But anyone who does not love Jesus is to be accursed. Nothing in the context makes us think that Paul is being cranky. So, how should you express you love for God today?

5. THIS COMING SUNDAY

This Sunday is our Annual Vision Sunday! This is a morning of looking back at what God has done through College Heights and anticipating what He is going to do. Here are some things you need to know about Vision Sunday:

We still need some volunteers to make this morning running smoothly. If you are able to help please fill out a quick form here.
